Top down cardigan - no seams - Womens size M

DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND!!

I have tried to adjust this for an adult size.
This is a size medium - finished measurements bust 38.5
Length 23" (you can make this as long as you like however!)

Yarn: aprox 350gms, of yarn to fit gauge
19sts and 28 rows = 4" / 10cm

7 3/4" buttons.

US 8 (5mm) circular and 5 Double pointed needles
US size 6 (4mm) and 5 DP needles

Adjust needle size if necessary to
obtain the correct gauge.

.
Notes
• This sweater is worked from the top down in one piece.

CO = cast om
PM = place marker between stitches
WS wrong side
RS right side
K - knit
P = purl
M1 make one - knit in botton of st1tch to make another stitch

Lets start!
CO 85 sts with #8 needles
row 1: (ws)
P14 (right front)
Place marker PM
P10 ( for sleeve) PM
P37 (for back) PM
P10 (for sleeve) PM
P14 to end for( left front).

Shape raglan
row 1 RS
* k to 1st sts before marker
M1 (make one stitch)
Knit stitch before marker Sip marker from left needle to right
Knit one, M1. repeat from * 3 more times
you now have 8 more stitches

Row 2: WS
*purl until 1st st before Marker
M1 P1, slip marker
P1, M1. Repeat from * 3 more tines - 8 more stitches added

repeat these stitches until you have the following:

39 sts for front
60 sts for sleeve
99 sts for back
60 stst for sleeve
39 for front.

The beauty of this pattern is that if the stitches aren't quite right you can carefully add or remove a stitch here and there!

end with a WR row purled across

DIVIDE THE SLEEVES AND BODY

RS
K39 for left front, slip next 60 sts for sleeve onto a holder.
Cast on 6 sts, knit up the 95 sts for the back
Slip next 60 sts of sleeve on holder
Cast on 6 sts and knit up last 39 sts for front
you should have 177 sts. (hopefully!)

***Work all this (not sleeves!) until piece measure about 12" from where you divided up the work.***
Switch to k1p1rib and knit 10 rows
Cast off.

Sleeves
Pick up the 60 sts on the US8  DP needles this way:
Begin at the middle of the underarm, pick up and knit 3 sts on the first half of the extra  cast on stitches - kint across the rest of the stitches on the holder then knit 3 more of the cast on stitches,
You should have 66 sts. PM and join.
Knit circular for about 1"
Change to smaller needles and K1P1 rib for 10 rows.
Cast off.

Do the same for the other sleeve.

Neck
with smaller circular needles, and beginning at front neck edge, evenly pick up 85 sts.
P one row
RS - knit, decreasing 4 sts evenly along the row.
Rib K1P1 for 10 rows.
Cast off.

Button border:
Beginning from the neck edge, pick up 111 sts.
P1K1 for 10 rows
Cast off

Do the same on the other side but make even buttonholes with the 1st button hole being on the neck trim.

weave in edges, block and wear!!!

Phew - that took a while to type!
I would post a picture but SOMEONE liked it so much it disappeared!!

As always, please let me know if you find any mistakes - as you may well as i am not very good at writing patterns!

Some tips:
I made this M1 as a yarn over to get 'holes ' for the raglan shaping - very lacy!

where i marked ***  *** you can actually knit a pattern here - its one straight peace so for a beginner knitter this will be a great way to practice stitches.

May I ask what yarn or weight yarn you used for the baby top-down cardi and the Adult top-down cardi?

Thank you much for the top down cardi pattern. I especially appreciate that you 'wrote' it instead of charted it;-) I seem genetically unable to read charts.

It is very kind of you to share this pattern.

Thank you for BOTh the infant and the adult sizes. I appreciate the easy to follow pattern, and I imagine you had requests for many more sizes :-) it's a shame there's always snarky commenters waiting to throw mud when someone does a good thing. And anonymous too...special.

Excellent pattern. Do you have one for toddler/child by any chance. I've knitted one for baby and would like to make a matching one for her big sister. This way she won't feel jealous that her baby sister gets all the attention. :)
This is exactly what I have been looking for - a simple top down cardigan. Unfortunately, I can't fit in a Medium. Would love to know how many stitches to add to make an XL. Thank you.

Hi. Thanks for the directions. I have been looking for a top-down one-piece cardigan for a while now.
But, according to my calculations, upon completing the raglan section, you should have:
SIZE MEDIUM 87 sts (not 99) for back
Please let me know if my calculations are wrong - often they are!

how can I make this one size larger, an if I use a Lion Brand 4 weight would this make the med a size larger? Number of stitches.

I need a large, . Can I just use my gauge and keep "making one" until I get my size?
Thank you for this share. I have made 2 top down v--neck pullovers in worsted (4) weight and am adjusting the pattern to make a sweater coat in 3x for a friend.

I like the idea of making it in a lighter weight yarn such as you call for.

The wee children's sweaters are sweet and I have added the pattern to my list of to-dos.

Again, thank you. I'm looking forward to making one in the lighter yarn.

2 needle fingerless gloves

This is an easy pattern that can be adapted according to your skill. I used worsted weight yarn and US 5 needles. You need just over 50gms of yarn. I also found that knitting them both at the same times ensures that they bout turn out the same ! Cast on 42 sts Knit 20 rows in k2 p2 rib on the 20th row place markers this way: k20 place marker, k2, place marker, k20 the 2 sts between the markers will form the increase for the thumb. Switch to stocking stitch (1 row K - right side- 1 row P - wrong side) Knit to marker, (20 sts) knit twice in the next stitch and in the one after that (the sts between the markers) K20 next row and all wrong side rows, Purl Knit 20 sts (you have reached the marker) knit twice in next stitch, K2 (till next marker) and K twice in the stitch before the marker K20 Continue this way, always increasing a stitch at each marker till you have 16sts between the markers. k 2 rows then with right side facing, k20, CO 16, k20 (shaping the thumb) nex

Hand Knitted Baby Cardigan Pattern

By Popular Demand! This is in one size only - takes for ever to figure out other sizes! For chest 10" - finished measurements about 14" Sleeve 3" You will need: 2 balls of a soft yarn that woks with 3.25mm (US 3 Needles) A button tension is 25sts and 50 rows for a 4x4 inch square If you are a beginner you may not understand this pattern - for more experienced knitters, I am sure you will see the 'pattern' of the decrease rows forming the raglan) I think this was originally a Debbie Bliss pattern i had written down somewhere so please forgive me if there are any mistakes - as i keep saying, I am hopeless at writing down patterns and i just had some notes on a scrap of paper! Back cast on 45 sts knit until back measures 3" ending with a wrong side row cast off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows leave remaining 37 sts on a spare needle sleeves (I  knit both at the same time) cast on 29 sts K 7 rows increase:* k3, m1, k to last 4 sts m1, k3

An easy shawl pattern

I wrote this as i knitted it so if you find any mistakes let me know! The cast on sts are the top of the shawl, the cast off will be the bottom. This is a very basic pattern that you can then embellish - i used an eyelet pattern on random rows.(k2tog YO) The first stitches should not be slipped (as i usually do when knitting) but knitted. You can use any yarn you like with its corresponding needles. there really is no gauge You can also knit it to any size. Just remember that the final amount of stitches you have will be its width and the number of rows you knit will be the length. You can check that on a swatch and calculate accordingly Cast on 7 stitches. Row 1 (RS): k2, yo, k1, yo,place marker k1 place marker, yo, k1, yo, k2. Row 2 (WS): K2 , P to last 2 sts knit last 2 sts (and on all WS) Row 3 (RS): k2, yo, k to marker, YO, k1,move marker YO, k to last 2 stitches, YO, k2. and so on So to give a quick recap. The 1st 2 sts of every row are always K followed by YO Be
