Now if you want to check out a REALLY talented knitter..look no further!!
I'm Joy Gerhardt, alias Joyuna. I've been knitting and spinning for some time now, but only in the past few months have I taken up designing. I love design as a creative outlet, and a way to put something new out into the world. I love knitting, and I spend a lot of time trying to discover or "unvent" techniques that will make knitting easier or more interesting. I'm a big fan of seamless and
flowing designs. I love handknit items, because they are fully customizable in a way that off-the-rack clothing is not - you can change the look and the feel of the fabric, the color, the size, and make it exactly the way you want it. If you don't like something, you can just change it. Several of my designs have sprung from looking for an item that doesn't exist in shops, so I made it myself.
I get my inspiration from all sorts of places - Victorian buildings, wildlife, high street fashion... Since moving to the UK from the United States half a year ago, there has been so much to inspire me. I'm taking in the big cities, the open countryside, the culture and the history - everything here has such a history to it, which is eye-opening for someone from a country barely 200 years old!
So far, all my designs are self-published, either free on my blog or
for sale on Ravelry. In a few months, my first published design will
be available in the fall issue of Knitcircus. I'm also continually
coming up with ideas, so there are several more designs on the way
soon, and hopefully many more to come.
My blog is http://joyarna.blogspot.com/ and I sell my patterns on
