Easy Knitted scarf or shawl

I found out that this type of scarf is called a BAKTUS SCARF Its really easy - all the rows are knit You have some short rows and that's about it! (if you dont want to knit, but like the finished product, it, and more, are available on http://louisefelice.com ) You will need - 100gms or about 420 yards of 4 ply or sock weight yarn # 5 US needles (3.74 mm) Fine yarn works the best but you can use up to double knitting or worsted weight. If you use the thicker yarn I would also use larger needles - go up by one size at least Abbreviations. YO : yarn over, ssk:  slip one stitch, knit one stitch, pass slipped stitch over K:  knit  SOME HINTS: I bought 2 balls of yarn and started the decreases when i finished the 1st ball. You can make a longer or smaller scarf using the 2 ball method and not measuring If you want the same effect, but use a thicker yarn, I would omit the ruffles - ie leave out rows 2 and 5 for a sharper angle or just knit without the shor...

My latest creation

Don't know why but I have become addicted to knitting shawls! I made this one yesterday....I might give it to mum for mothers day!! at the moment it is for sale

Variations on a theme

I used the basic shawl pattern  and keeping the increases on the sides and middle, incorporated colors and patterns to make different designs.

An easy shawl pattern

I wrote this as i knitted it so if you find any mistakes let me know! The cast on sts are the top of the shawl, the cast off will be the bottom. This is a very basic pattern that you can then embellish - i used an eyelet pattern on random rows.(k2tog YO) The first stitches should not be slipped (as i usually do when knitting) but knitted. You can use any yarn you like with its corresponding needles. there really is no gauge You can also knit it to any size. Just remember that the final amount of stitches you have will be its width and the number of rows you knit will be the length. You can check that on a swatch and calculate accordingly Cast on 7 stitches. Row 1 (RS): k2, yo, k1, yo,place marker k1 place marker, yo, k1, yo, k2. Row 2 (WS): K2 , P to last 2 sts knit last 2 sts (and on all WS) Row 3 (RS): k2, yo, k to marker, YO, k1,move marker YO, k to last 2 stitches, YO, k2. and so on So to give a quick recap. The 1st 2 sts of every row are alw...
